Barre

 

Students come to enjoy a fun workout while also improving balance, coordination and poise. This is NOT a dance class, this is the workout that trains for the strength and endurance dancers need to perform at their best. Enjoy upbeat music while you move your way to finding your dancers body within. Instructors at Sanctuari are Principal Barre certified; 'Principle Barre' was designed by two ballerina’s, including principle ballerina for the National Ballet of Canada Heather Ogden, who wanted to share how ballerina's actually train.

 

LILA BARRE

'Lila' technique, designed by Kathi Coyle, when paired with other modalities brings in a unique lens through which we look at ourselves. Elements of relaxation and integration of the body as a whole allow participants to leave class in a meditative state even after an intense 'workout'.

Meditation

 

We are taught how to move and behave in the outer world, but we are never taught how to be still and examine what is within ourselves. When we learn to do this through meditation, we attain the highest of all joys that can ever be experience by a human being. This ancient practice allows us to experience true relaxation within our hectic and fast past modern world. 

 

GUIDED MEDITATION

Guided by an experienced meditator with a soothing voice, these meditations are designed to lead to an experience of inner peace and mental clarity. Participants are encouraged to find a comfortable position where they may stay for an extended period of time.

THURSDAY 1:15PM (After 12pm Gentle Flow-Yoga)


Pilates

 

Pilates is a gentle way to lengthen and strengthen though movement.  Students are taught to stabilize the core while moving the limbs in fluid movements that encourage long, lean, and healthy muscles. Instructors at Sanctuari hold Second Wind Pilates certification; Second Wind’s® approach is a unique blend of classical Pilates and up-to-date functional, expressive, and therapeutic movement training.

Somatic Dance

 

Somatic dance invites the exploration of our movement potential to the forefront of our awareness as we move between guided instruction and free flow form. Each class begins with grounding and breath awareness, builds as we watch our bodies come to life, and then winds down for quiet, internal reflection before closing. Enjoy the inspiring music as you explore your way, bringing awareness and consciousness to movements, and joy for your body, mind, and spirit. Let's dance into wellness!

 

NIA

The Nia technique is an eclectic movement practice that blends three healing arts, three dance arts and three martial arts. Nia is a practice of listening to “your body's way” and moving it in ways that revitalizes, invigorates, and relaxes, resulting in a more flexible, strong and balanced you! Whether you want to gently move your body or dance 'til you sweat, this class allows for it all. Most importantly you follow YOUR body's way and what YOU need.

LĪLĀ DANCE

These classes help to bring play and acceptance into how we view our bodies. WEDNESDAY 1:30PM - THURSDAY 10:30AM


Sufi Whirling

 

These sessions are 30 minutes in length. It is not expected or required for participants to be able to 'whirl' for the entire time. Some participants may choose to simply sit in meditation during the Sema to enjoy the palpable energies that support a deep connection to source. Socks, or ballet slippers, are recommended for comfort. Also feel free to bring a flowing skirt or other garment that will enhance your experience.

Sema is the traditional dance of the Whilrling Dirvishes. More than a dance, the Sema is a sacred ritual through which one is able to connect to the divine in a moving mediative practice. The act of shedding ones old skin to reveal ones true nature, whirling enhances a sense grounded release to all who gather in this ceremony together.

WEDNESDAY 2:15PM*

*It is essential to attend the somatic dance class that runs prior to this class. The grounding and personal awareness that occurs will help to connect the body and spirit in preparation for this practice.

 


Yoga

 

Yoga is an ancient practice traditionally practiced as a way to connect with divine consciousness. The western version is based on the limb associated with the body, known as Asana. A variety of methods are offered to help students to build strong, lean, and balanced muscles through ancient poses, breath and meditative movement. Each Instructor brings their own flavour to their individual classes. 

This is a general description, as each class will be fuelled by the essence of the individual instructor's style of instruction.

 

GENTLE FLOW

Come back into balance with a variety of classic postures and breathing techniques. This gentle, flowing class will help you develop a stronger, more supple spine using the principles of muscular and skeletal alignment as you release tension from your being with the profound power of the breath. A blissful blend of strength and release, accessible to yogis of all ages and skill levels.

FLOW & RESTORE

This gentle classes mixes the best of flow with soothing restorative postures. Connect with self as you watch the body with curiosity, transitioning from posture to posture with breath as your guide. Allow this information to seep in to your awareness of where to focus your letting go. 

TUESDAY 10:30AM - TUESDAY 5:30PM - FRIDAY 8:30AM

 

FIRE FLOW - AGNI PRACTICE

A beginner to intermediate hatha-vinyasa style flow practice. This playful flow is ideal for those looking to explore the limits of our bodies in a safety and explore the inner fire that invites new strength and connectivity.

RESTORATIVE FLOW - YIN/YANG

This calming, comforting practice gives rest to the body and allows the mind and breath to grow steady. In a state of total relaxation, observe tranquility and clarity. Gentle hatha postures will open up the body, then rest back into stillness with a series of longer, held restorative postures fully supported by bolsters, blocks, blankets and straps. Open to all levels. This is a general description, as each class will be fuelled by the essence of the individual instructor's style of instruction.

THRIVE YOGA

These moderately paced classes are suitable for all levels. The classes will include a variety of poses that allow you to go inside and focus on your breath and leave with a new sense of peace and wellbeing.
